WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Counselling offers a place to talk about things that might be bothering you, an experience you have had or any other area of your life that you would like to consider or explore.Â
As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that you are the expert in your life, and I will be by your side, offering empathy and support. I will not judge you. I will not tell you what to do or how you should behave, we will work together collaboratively to explore your situation.
Having a safe space to do this, will hopefully support you to get to a place of understanding, awareness and acceptance.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Having the opportunity to sit and talk with somebody who is listening to hear and see us, to show us true empathy and not judge us, is rare.  Â
People are complex and may carry many opinions, behaviours and ways of being, sometimes without even realising it. Â
Counselling is an opportunity for us to sit with someone, who is there to support us while we explore how we feel and try to understand and accept who we are.
HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS IT?
Confidentiality is central to counselling, it helps with building a trusting relationship between the Counsellor and Client.

It is so important, that it forms part of the bacp ethical framework, that I follow.
All Counsellors have a duty to step outside of the confidential boundary with the following:

- when a risk of significant harm to a client, or someone close to them, is identified.
- when the risk of breaking UK laws, relating to anti-terrorism, child safeguarding or money laundering appears.

I am legally required to contact other professionals in any of these circumstances. Wherever possible, I would try to discuss my concerns with you, however this is not always possible.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Each person's counselling journey is different, we can discuss this during our introductory session together.
WHAT ABOUT SESSION TIMES, CANCELLATIONS AND TIME OUT, LIKE HOLIDAYS?
Sessions - we will usually meet at the same time each week. If you work shift patterns or have other requirements, we can discuss this in our introductory session together.

Cancellations will require 48 hours notice, otherwise payment in full for the missed session, will be required.

We can discuss other time out, such as holidays (usually 2 weeks notice), in our sessions together.

We will agree to all of this in our contract together at the start of our sessions.
